If you are reading my blog, and you hate burpees, I’m not sure what to tell you except “You know me, you should expect nothing less than burpees…”
Keep Calm and Burpees
Burpees are just about my favorite exercise. No, scratch that. They ARE my favorite exercise. If I could only do one exercise for the rest of my life, I would choose burpees. They are strength, cardio, mobility, and core all wrapped in a neat exhausting package.

Burpees are my go-to exercise. Since I am creating this post later at night than I would like to, you guys get more burpees. I know, contain your excitement.
This workout is great for anywhere, and substituting any exercise (except the burpees). You will need cards, 5-7 pieces of paper, a pair of die, or poker chips to play this game. If you are using paper or poker chips, write numbers on the paper ranging from 3-10 (for beginners), 3-15 (for intermediate), or 5-20 (for advanced). For example, when I played this game, I had the numbers 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, and 20 on six different poker chips. If you are using a deck of cards, pick out 5-6 cards, 1 of which must be a face card (to equal the number 10, 15, or 20 depending on your chosen level).
Burpee Invasion
Place the chips, cards, or paper in a container. If playing with die, make sure you have a flat surface for you to roll them.
To begin, pick a card, chip, or roll the die. Do the number of burpees as is represented what you drew or rolled. If you drew a 10, do ten burpees.Or, if you rolled a 2 and a 5, do 7 burpees. Replace the card or chip back into the container. So, yes, you may draw it again later on.
Between each set of burpees, do a set of programmed exercises. These can be modified or changed to whatever you want, what I have written is just an example.
- 20 Zebra Kicks
- 20 Flyaways
- 20 Jumping Jacks
- 20 V-ups
- 10 Cat-Cow
- 20 Air Squats
- 20 Dips
- 20 Mountain Climbers
- 20 Bicycle Crunches
- 20 Giraffe Reach-downs
So, do your first set of burpees, then 20 Zebra Kicks. Then draw a card or roll your die to determine how many burpees you perform. After those burpees, you do 20 Flyaways. Do another set of burpees you draw or roll, then the jumping jacks. Then burpees. V-ups. Burpees. Cat-cow. And so on.
If you are keeping track your score is however many burpees you completed.
Again, feel free to substitute any exercise during the sets. If you need ideas or want to know how to perform the listed exercises, check out my Animal Exercises on the website.
