ZooFit WOD- December 24: Santa’s Reindeer Workout

Today is Christmas Eve. Tonight, Santa Claus will ride his sleigh around the world and deliver his toys to good girls and boys.

We all know the story of how Santa travels with his sleigh, and “eight tiny reindeer”. But to deliver THAT many toys and gifts to THAT many children, those reindeer are probably pretty buff. Which inspired me to create the Reindeer Tabata workout.

In case you haven’t experienced a Tabata, this is a high-intensity interval training workout, where you exercise for 20 seconds and rest for 10 seconds. For this particular Tabata, you will switch exercises every time your timer goes off, until you complete one full round of all eight exercises. Rest for one full minute, then repeat the cycle of 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off for all eight exercises. Repeat for a total of 4 full rounds.

If you want to keep score, and repeat the workout later on (even next year), write the total number of repetitions you get in the whole round. Your score is the total number of reps from your best round.

Reindeer Tabata

  1. Dasher Shuttle Sprints
  2. Dancer Skaters
  3. Prancer High Knees
  4. Vixen V-ups
  5. Comet Broad Jumps
  6. Cupid Crunches
  7. Donner Jacks
  8. Blitzen Quickfeet
  9. BONUS ROUND- Rudolph Russian Twists

(So, except a select few, these exercises came from the personalities of the reindeer rather than just their name. Did you know Donner and Blitzen mean “Thunder and Lightning” in German? Who knew? You learn something new every day, and then you make a workout to reflect it…)

  1. I’m pretty sure I have a cold, so I’m not going to do this workout outside today. Which means I need to replace the Dasher Shuttle Sprints with Mountain Climbers. I think that is a good switch. 🙂
