Today is June 21, the Summer Solstice. It is the longest day of the year, but if you ask me, it could have been a bit longer. I felt rushed all day long, even when I planned my schedule and adhered to it.
I started my day by waking up over an hour before my alarm went off. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, except I didn’t get my full eight hours of sleep. I think my body is starting to wake up with the sun’s rising, which is more natural. Now if only I could get my body to shut down at night. Or maybe I should say my mind, that’s what keeps me up all hours of the night.
It doesn’t help that my job right now is keeping me out past 10:00 at night. And I have my writing goals I want to achieve. So, I end up staying awake later than I ideally would like, so I can get all my writing finished. Which is starting to come along. I have all my recipes, all my workouts, all my meal plans. I need to work on two grocery shopping lists, my exercises, and my introductory pieces for my Conservation Fitness 30-Day Head Start Guide. But when I finish that, I will essentially have my ZooFit Exercise Guide complete, and then all I need to finish will be my presentation for AAZK and Reuse, Recycle, Reduce Your Waist, which is mostly written, just need to make the crafts and get photos.
Whew. That’s just my writing stuff.
My workout stuff keeps me going, too. Today, I swam to the other side of Goss Lake, without stopping, but going fairly slow. On the other side, I rested for about three minutes, treading water, and then swam back. It only took 25 minutes, which isn’t bad, but I would like to shave at least 5 minutes off this time before my last week of training for the Triathlon.
I brought my bike to work today, but didn’t end up using it much until the very end of the day, and then the daylight was starting to fade. Fort Casey doesn’t have nearly as many hills as Fort Ebey, except the entrance, which I don’t bike up, and the road to the campground. That hill is incredibly steep, but short, so it only took three or four minutes to get up all the way.
I’m slowly getting the hang of equipment I use at work. I’m not keen on the equipment, as the weed eater, blower, and hover mower uses oil and gasoline. But I spent two hours getting the hang of weed eating. Later, I returned for the evening routine and heaved my shoulders with aggravation. It didn’t look like I had done anything. I did force myself to stop because I felt I could have gone on and on all evening, weed eating, and STILL find patches I missed. But a girl’s gotta eat. And I was meeting Chris for a picnic dinner at the park. So I packed up and headed back to Fort Casey. I do feel more comfortable with the weed-eater than before. And I learned how to mow steep hills with a hover mower. There’s an important life skill, or at least an important reason not to skip arms at the gym.
I didn’t even get the chance to really use the mower though, as my partner for the day had to leave to go home, and I had to get started on my projects for the day.
It may have been the longest day of the year, but good grief, I wish it hadn’t been so short.
Happy Solstice, everyone. Hope you spent some of the longest day enjoying the sun, the fresh air, and the beauty of the world around us.
