100 Ways of EarthFit- Day 67: Rest Day

I took a rest day.  The end.

Well, there really isn’t that much more to tell.  My shoulders and arms were so incredibly sore that they ached and made it hard to sleep.  And I had (and still experiencing) such painful heartburn that even medicine isn’t helping.

Last night I tossed and turned and literally watched the hours pass by.  I tried icing my shoulder, I tried sleeping downstairs, I tried sleeping in an upright position, my cats even got in on the action of trying to help me sleep.  But in the end, I received approximately 2 hours of broken sleep.  So, when I got home around noon, I made the executive decision that today was a rest day.  I went upstairs and slept for 4 hours.

My stomach is still on the verge of growling, but I think taking it easy today will alleviate any discomfort so I can go back to kicking ass tomorrow.

Rest days are essential.  Without them we can get burned out.  So while I often jest that I don’t want to take a rest day, we really need to listen to our bodies and heed their unyielding pleas when warranted.

And now I’m going back to bed…
